A very big THANK YOU and well done to Holly Henderson and her team for raising £800 in memory of her father, Lindsay Michael Henderson.  Here is Holly’s account of her ride.

I cycled across Scotland from Inverness to Oban on the 13th and 14th of September 2020 raising money in aid of FORTUNESWELL CANCER TRUST in memory of my father Lindsay Michael Henderson who was cared for on the Fortuneswell Ward at Dorset County Hospital.

The last time my father saw me race on my paddleboard was the UK Ultra Endurance Great Glen race from Fort William to Inverness so it was a fitting journey with a bolt on to Oban to make the most of the Caledonian Way. With only two days to undertake the challenge around work and in the middle of a Yellow weather warning it made for an epic adventure for both myself and my support crew (Mother and the Hounds).

Day 1: Epic morning cycle of 40 miles on the A82 from Inverness to Fort Augustus. Found the support crew and hounds at Fort Augustus who advised the road was closed at Invergarry due to a landslide so it was an incredible 28 mile gravel bike ride to Fort William. Support detour due to land slip 126 miles arriving at Neptune’s Staircase two hours after me!!

Day 2: Fort William to Oban. The A82 from Fort William was a tad hairy with Timber lorries. Awesome ride down the A828 mixing it up with the Route 78 Caledonian way. Only slight calamity was a dog walker 8 miles out of Oban whose large dog chased my front tyre and then knocked me off my bike :-/ at 14mph. Blooded, burnt and my right shoulder bashed but still smiling finishing up on the Esplanade in Oban.

Thank you to the 41 supporters who raised an astonishing £800 in a matter of days for the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust. Covid has been very cruel to cancer patients I hope this make a difference. Holly Henderson and the Support crew.
