The Fortuneswell Cancer Trust is a registered charity that seeks to improve the services to cancer patients in Dorset. We have no paid staff – the Trust is run by Trustees and a Committee with other volunteers helping out when necessary. Our running costs are minimal so donations really do help cancer patients locally.
In addition to contributing significant sums of money towards major projects at the Dorset County Hospital (£750,000 to date), we continue to:
- Fund items of specialised equipment which make patients more comfortable or help clinical staff to more accurately tailor cancer treatment to individuals’ needs to obtain the best possible outcome – a developing area of cancer medicine.
- Pay for nurses to attend courses and conferences to keep their skills and enthusiasm sharp, and sometimes help small research projects which might improve patients’ lives and treatment.
- Fund Reflexology for cancer patients. This is an example of something that the NHS cannot fund because there is no evidence that it improves outcomes but it certainly makes people feel better.
- Provide newspapers for patients as they undergo chemotherapy treatment – a small gesture which is particularly valued by patients.
If you wish to help us continue with our work, donations can be made via cheque payable to Fortuneswell Cancer Trust to the address below or left at the Fortuneswell Outpatient Unit.
